Anxiety is
a condition that many people may suffer from yet not tell a living soul, it can
be an awful feeling when an attack of anxiety takes over.
For people
who have never had a panic attack or a bout of anxiety it can be difficult to
comprehend what a sufferer goes through during those delicate moments. To
explain what it feels like I have created a story that will explain what
happens.
The Story of Anxiety
Once upon a
time a young man received a great surprise when he found out his sister had
said yes over a candle lit meal to her boyfriend of many years who asked for
her hand in marriage.
Months
passed and the wedding day finally came round, the young man got suited and
booted, looking a million dollars then traveled to where his sister was getting
married.
Upon
arriving at the wedding venue the young man spotted the rest of his family and
spoke to them before they all filed into the hall where the wedding was taking
place. Once inside the young man took his position standing at the back and
more people filed in, after a while the hall became very full and everyone was
packed in like sardines, this is when the anxiety started to set in.
At first
the young man started to have difficulties breathing, he kept swallowing hard
and trying to take deep breaths, a short time later and he could felt his heart
starting to pound wildly in his chest and his nerves started jangling. This put
him in an awkward situation, all his mind was telling him to do was run, run
out of that hall as quick as possible but he knew that his sister was about to
walk down the aisle.
The
decision had to be made, he could feel his heart trying to climb out of his
chest and he wanted to run but his nerves welded him to the spot like an animal
caught in a vehicles headlight. The young man could feel himself wavering on
the brink of fainting but managed to fight it, his breathing still labored and
his mind writhing in agony as it could not manage the situation, the young man
spent most of his sisters wedding in mental torture and physical distress.
Food for thought
As you can
see this is clearly a difficult and unsettling condition to have, the worrying
thing about the story you read is that it is true and happened to someone I
know, during the wedding he actually thought he was going to die at one point,
even though this was never going to be the case.
For those
that suffer with anxiety it can be because of a certain “trigger” that causes
it, for my friend this is being in enclosed spaces with large groups of people,
for others their trigger may be something totally different, there are even
some sufferers who don’t even know what causes their attacks.
If you find
out what your trigger is then you can find a way of coping with the situation
that causes it and try to overcome the power of anxiety.
