Is L-Carnitine Good for Anxiety?

If you're upset, nervous, anxious, or are feeling generally listless, you are not alone.  We live in very anxious times, and many feel exactly as you do.  Additionally, there are many things you can do to help yourself get over these feelings and help calm and steady your nerves.  So, you may be asking, is L-Carnitine good for anxiety?

1217661_forest.jpgThe reason that many have begun thinking that L-Carnitine is good for anxiety is because it has been shown in some laboratory tests to have benefits for those who have Parkinson's disease, head injuries, nerve injuries, and several other cognitive problems.  It also has proven to be of benefit for those in the early stages of Alzheimer's. L-Carnitine is a natural substance that is closely associated with Vitamin B.  It helps in the disposal of body fat by transporting fatty acids from the body's cells to the parts of the body that produce energy.

When used as a nutritional supplement, L-Carnitine is good for anxiety because it helps the body's processes of fat absorption and breakdown.  This gives a person renewed energy and stamina.

Having more energy may mean more physical activity and exercise.  These both release endorphins, the "feel good" hormones of the brain that alleviate anxiety and that have a calming effect on a person.  Regular exercise also helps your digestive and respiratory systems, and this can help a person feel better in general.

There is still much to learn about whether or not L-Carnitine is good for anxiety, and of course doctor and biologists are researching these questions all the time.  They do know however that most tests have proven positive when looking for results.

Little is known about the side effects, and if this means L-Carnitine is good for anxiety if there are any.  Typically persons taking the supplement report few side effects if any.  It does not seem to interact with other medications, however, you should always consult with your doctor when taking any supplement.  In any case, he or she can also tell you if L-Carnitine is good for anxiety in your particular case, or if a stronger medication would be recommended instead.

There may not be much you can do to make your anxiety and worry go away completely, but there are things you can do to help yourself cope.  Taking care of yourself physically with exercise and activity is certainly one of them.
